On 21 February 2024, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat held a roundtable discussion with Mr. William Alan Reinsch, Senior Advisor and Scholl Chair in International Business of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). The event, organized by the Royal Thai Embassy, and the Executive Council on Diplomacy (ECD) at the Embassy, was attended by 50 participants from the diplomatic corps and members of U.S. leading companies. The discussion centered around the views on current U.S. trade policy and the way forward.
During the discussion, stakeholders shared concerns on the slow progress of important trade frameworks led by the U.S, especially on digital trade. While there are good efforts to balance security and trade, including the enforcement of labor rights, and promotion of human rights, there is still a strong demand for market access considerations. Efforts to derisk and diversify the supply chain are underway in both the public and private sectors, with active evaluation of short and long-term costs and benefits. Significant changes in key policy areas are unpredictable until the completion of the election.
