On 12 February 2024, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with The Honorable Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State, during his official visit to the U.S. at the invitation of the Secretary. Both sides stressed the importance of strategic alliance and 190-year partnership between the two countries to response to challenges both at the regional and global levels, based on shared values and mutual interest. The meeting follows the positive momentum that has increased through high-level engagements, especially the visit of National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to Thailand last month.

Both sides agreed to push forward the cooperation under the Communique on Strategic Alliance and Partnership, on defense, that both sides will meet at the 2nd Strategic and Defense Dialogue (2+2) in Bankok during 28-29 February, and on economic partnership, especially trade and investment, as well as efforts to address climate change. In addition, they also exchanged views on situations in the region, especially the geopolitical landscape and the situation in Myanmar. The U.S. side welcomed Thailand’s efforts, including humanitarian initiative. The meeting also discussed situations in Israel, Ukraine, efforts to help the release of Thai hostages in Gaza, and the Thai side seeking the U.S.’ support for Thailand’s candidature for the 2025-2027 HRC membership.
