On February 27, 2024, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat gave an interview to SiamTownUS Thai Newspaper on the accomplishments of the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. and his views on Thai-U.S. relations, including economic cooperation, political and security alliance, and people-to-people relations.
The Ambassador shared 7 major accomplishments of the Royal Thai Embassy during his tenure in his views, which were: 1) The official visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to the U.S., 2) The establishment of the US-Thai Alliance Caucus, 3) Series of events in celebration of the 190th anniversary of Thai-U.S. diplomatic relations, 4) The announcement for Thailand to be the host of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), 5) The establishment of the Thai Restaurant Associations of America (TRAA), 6) The progress on the plan to create Thai Town in Virginia, expecting to launch in the next 2-3 months, 7) The continued support for Thai associations in the U.S. such as the Association of Thai Students in the USA (ATSA), the Association of Thai Professionals in America and Canada (ATPAC), the Global Innovation Hub, and the Thai Creative Student Collective (TCSC). The Ambassador also highlighted the determination to work closely with federal and local authorities to further strengthen the rights, as well as livelihood security and safety of Thai communities in the U.S., as well as to support the Thai communities to organize cultural events to further promoting Thailand in the U.S.
In addition, the Ambassador shared his views that the large amount of investment over $15 billion and job creation from Thai companies in the U.S., together with the growing economy of the U.S., serve as a strong foundation to support Thai communities in the U.S. Furthermore, the Ambassador urged Thai-American citizens to exercise their rights to vote with awareness, in the hope of increasing U.S. representatives that would respond to the interests of the local Thai communities.
