On 25 January 2023, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat, spouse, and an official from the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington, D.C., visited Edy’s Chicken & Steak Restaurant in Virginia owned by Sayomporn Srivara, President of Northern Thai Association Washington D.C. and a board member of Wat Tummaprateip Washington D.C. in Maryland. Pratum Lindburg, a board member of Wat Yarnna Rangsee Buddhist Monastery in Virginia, and Uthit Peganant, a committee member of Southern Thai Association Washington D.C. were also present to welcome and joined the discussion.

This restaurant branch was opened over 32 years ago, and it has been the most successful branch with most visited customers per week and remains the only branch that is still open today. Her success is not only limited to her secret Peruvian-style recipe to marinate chicken at the restaurant, but also her generosity, hospitality, and kindness to always want to help others.

Ambassador Tanee extended his appreciation to the 3 Thai community leaders for partaking this get-together and the invitation to try this famous delicacy.  Ambassador discussed the Embassy’s plan to celebrate the 190th Anniversary of Thailand – U.S. Diplomatic Relations this year, especially the Thai Festival in Washington, D.C., which will focus on Thai food, Thai fruits, Muay Thai, Thai textiles, and Thai massage, and hope to organize it near the National Mall this summer.  He also invited Sayomporn, Pratum, and Uthit to co-organize activities with the Embassy, given that the local Thai community here has wide networks of connections, knows what people would be interested in, and has vast experiences in organizing festivals and the like.
