On 6 January 2023, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat and spouse, Mrs. Cholatip Sangrat, visited the City of Frederick, Maryland, and discussed with Mayor Michael O’Connor about how the city has greatly supported the popular Thai Water Festival organized in the downtown area for the past 3 years, and is now included in the city’s annual calendar of events.
During the discussion, Mr. Jittisak Phakam, Sumittra Thai restaurant owner and CEO of JSP Group LLC, who is the key person in organizing the Festival and inviting the Thai communities and restaurants in the area to participate, also joined. He shared his vision and aspiration to promote a Thai cultural event that people in the city could join in on the fun, how to organize the festival, appreciation for the full support from the city, and the festival atmosphere. Moreover, other city’s representatives also joined the meeting, including Elizabeth Chung, Executive Director, Asian American Center of Frederick (AACF), Jhenileen Libongco-Barbour, Founder and CEO of Continuum Healthcare Network, and Jake Wynn, Marketing and Communications Manager of Visit Frederick. They emphasized the city’s continuous considerable support in Asian-American activities and expressed esteemed admiration for the Thai Water Festival.
Ambassador Tanee also told everyone about how the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington, D.C., is currently planning a series of events to celebrate the 190th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Thailand and the U.S. this year and invited the City of Frederick to take part in activities that would also benefit the city, such as teaching Thai kick-boxing as a sport to kids and interested adults, and cultural activities that would promote the city’s tourism as well as the unity of the local Thai communities.
