Thailand's new Prime Minister, Srettha Thavisin, impressed American investors at APEC, boosting their confidence about doing business in the Kingdom, according to United States Ambassador to Thailand Robert F. Godec.
Narumon Pinyosinwat, Thailand's Trade Representative, told reporters that Ambassador Godec lavished praise on the Prime Minister during a meeting earlier this month at Government House in Bangkok. Ambassador Godec emphasized Thailand's significance as a close ally of the U.S. and an attractive destination to American investors.
The Ambassador said that Prime Minister Srettha's presentations to American and other investors had generated interest and enthusiasm during the APEC meetings in San Francisco in November. Prime Minister Srettha conferred with top executives from leading tech companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Tesla.
Since those meetings, Tesla executives have visited Thailand to search for potential sites to build a factory to produce their electric vehicles (EVs). Microsoft and Google have also announced that they will expand their investments and initiatives in the Kingdom in recent weeks.
The Prime Minister has made reigniting investment in Thailand a priority for his administration, urging the Kingdom's overseas envoys to make the case for doing business in Southeast Asia's second-largest economy.
Thailand has consistently welcomed foreign investors and adopted friendly policies for investing in the Kingdom no matter what political party has been in power.
In recent years, Thai policymakers have been adjusting investment policies to keep pace with increasing competition from emerging economies in the region and around the world.
The Ambassador recommended that Prime Minister Srettha and his government seriously consider a raft of suggestions from the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand to further raise the Kingdom's appeal to investors.
