Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin urged United States businesses to increase collaboration with Thailand on sustainability, creating synergies with partners, and growing the digital economy, during a speech to members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand last week.
“My government will actively pursue diplomacy and connectivity with our partners on the regional and global level,” Srettha told the 300-plus American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (AMCHAM) members in attendance.
In addition, he pledged support for the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), a new framework launched last year, with 14 countries working together to advance cooperation, stability, prosperity, development, and peace within the region, and deliver tangible benefits for the peoples.
AMCHAM President Ornkanya Pibuldham agreed with partnering for investing and sustainability. "The U.S. is a vital trade partner for Thailand. We're optimistic about working with the new government to proactively represent Thailand internationally and attract foreign direct investment while fostering sustainable economic growth,” she said.
Prime MinisterSrettha also stressed that building resilient supply chains by working with partners would be another policy priority. Thailand was able to keep most of its factories and transport infrastructure up and running during the global pandemic when some other countries had shut down. That success has been a factor in drawing new investments.
“Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin's discussions with the business community covered critical issues including incentives for foreign investors, strategies for advancing high-tech industries in the Kingdom, and adapting the healthcare system to support an aging society,” said AMCHAM Executive Director Heidi Gallant.
U.S. Ambassador to Thailand Robert Godec was also in attendance and noted that this year marks an important anniversary. "As Thailand celebrates 190 years of U.S.-Thai relations, we look forward to working together for advancing our common interests and prosperity for our peoples,” Ambassador Godec said.
