On 18 July 2025, H.E. Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the U.S., attended a luncheon hosted by Mr. Blake Moyer, President of Surry County Economic Development, held at the Siamese Twin Museum.

The event brought together representatives from key economic sectors in Surry County and Mount Airy, including agriculture, tourism, power, granite, and tobacco. The luncheon successfully fostered mutual understanding for future economic cooperation between Thailand and Mount Airy.

Of particular note is the burgeoning winery industry in the area, with nearly 100 wineries producing in-house, highlighting the region’s growing prominence in this sector. In addition, the county possesses high-quality mineral water resources and has expressed interest in developing its beverage industry through collaborations with international companies.
