On 17 July 2025, H.E. Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the U.S., and the Royal Thai Embassy team joined a special dinner hosted by Mayor Jon Cawley of Mount Airy in honor of their visit to the city. The event was attended by esteemed guests including the city manager, city commissioner, city attorney, and descendants of the Siamese Twin/Bunker family.

The meeting served to strengthen the historic ties between Thailand and Mount Airy, the city where the famous Siamese twins, Eng and Chang Bunker, settled—marking the earliest Thai (then Siamese) presence in the United States. The gathering also celebrated the long-standing relations between Thailand and the United States, particularly the unique connection with Mount Airy.

The event was held at Cross Creek Country Club, fostering continued friendship and cultural exchange between the two communities.
