On 8 June 2025, Mr. Kobboon Sangmanee, Minister Counsellor, and Mr. Vasu Srivarathonbul, Counsellor and Head of the Consular Section of the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C., represented the Embassy at the 40th Annual Meeting of the Dhammayut Order, hosted by Wat Buddha Bucha in Georgia. The meeting was presided over via video conference by His Holiness Somdet Phra Maha Wirawong, Member of the Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand and Secretary-General of the Dhammayut Order, and was chaired in person by Venerable Phratep Kittiwimon, Administrator of the Dhammayut Sangha in the United States. The meeting was attended by over 100 members of the Dhammayut Order and Dhammayut monks.
Mr. Kobboon highlighted the strong ties and cooperation between the Royal Thai Embassy, Consulates General, and Thai temples, emphasizing their vital role in promoting unity and strengthening the Thai community in the United States. He also provided key updates and offered useful recommendations to the monastic community and Thai nationals affiliated with the temples. Some of the topics he addressed included the ongoing development of Thai–U.S. relations, the presentation of the World Tipitaka Saj-jha-ya Phonetic Recitation to Princeton University’s library, grant programs offered by local authorities for temple development, and the current restrictive immigration policies in the United States.
Mr. Vasu expressed appreciation for the continued collaboration of the temples in organizing mobile consular services throughout the year. He also provided guidance on the process for renewing passports for Buddhist monks and addressed other related issues affecting Thai clergy.
