Smart investors ignore the short term. Citibank is taking the longer view and says the reasons to invest in Thailand remain strong. "The investment thesis for Thailand remains very solid in terms of attractiveness for manufacturing, given the existing infrastructure and the country's strategic geopolitical location," said Sue Lee, Managing Director and Head of Markets in Asia South at Citi.

She said she has seen a strong uptick in client activity and investor interest in Thailand and across the region in recent months. Foreign investors seeking tactical opportunities in emerging markets are eyeing Thailand and its businesses, she added. “This year, contrary to what we saw at the beginning of the year, there has been a lot more interest in emerging market Asia.”

As an example, she cited PTT Global Chemical’s successful $1.1 billion dollar-denominated subordinated perpetual securities issue - the largest ever in the region. The issue was oversubscribed more than eight times.

Lee said that while 2025 has been marked by market turbulence, the volatility has driven significant demand for derivatives, structured rates, and other investment and risk management solutions.
