Children born in the United States who are applying for the first Thai passport must first apply for a Thai Birth Certificate through the Consular Section of the Royal Thai Embassy or the Consulate General. After receiving the Thai Birth Certificate, it is advised to proceed with the process of adding your child's name to the Thai house registration at the district office or the district chief's office where you have your permanent residence in Thailand. This registration will provide your child with a 13-digit Thai national identification number, which is essential for future passport applications. Parents who bring their child born in the United States to apply for a second passport must have already completed the process of adding their child's name to the Thai house registration. This is essential for the child to have a 13-digit Thai national identification number. Failure to complete this process will result in the inability to apply for a second passport.

Parents can contact the district office or the district chief's office where they have their permanent residence in Thailand to complete the procedure of adding their child's name to the Thai house registration. They should then bring the house registration with the child's name added as a supporting document when applying for the second passport. The applicant is advised to make an appointment online before coming to the consular office, Royal Thai Embassy, Washington D.C., or the Mobile Consular Units, as biological data must be collected (photo, retinal scan, and fingerprints). This is because you will receive a confirmation email instantly from the automated response system upon successfully scheduling an appointment. In the email, the date and time of your selected appointment will be specified, along with a checklist of the documents you need to bring on the day of your service request. This is to facilitate your document preparation and avoid long waiting times for service or even the possibility of not being able to obtain a passport. Additionally, the officers will provide service to individuals with advance appointments before serving those without appointments.

Note:

• Parents must present themselves to the officers to give their consent to issue a passport for their child.
• A Thai House Registration, marriage certificate/child custody certificate (Form Por. Kor. 14), or parents' divorce certificate can be substituted with a photocopy if you do not wish to submit the original document.
• If the parents are unable to come and provide their consent for the minor to obtain a passport in front of the officers, the parents must sign a consent form in person with the officer, or they must provide a Power of Attorney and Consent which was signed in front of a Notary Public to certify the signatures of the parents. In the event that the parents are divorced, the parent with legal custody shall sign the consent letter.

1. Receiving a passport book via Postal Service

• Bring cash 31 USD for postage fee and pay on the day of receiving the passport service. Passport books will be sent back via Priority Mail Express Flat Envelope only

2. Receiving a passport book in person at the consular section

• Bring your receipt and Thai ID card to show to the officer on the day you come to receive the passport

3. Authorize another person to receive a passport on your behalf at the consular section

• Specify the name of the person who is authorized to receive the passport book from the consular section in the passport application

4. Authorize another person to receive a passport on your behalf at the consular section at the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chaengwattana Road, Bangkok, Thailand
