Ambassador Tanee meets university executives and Thai students in Pittsburgh

On 13 March 2024, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat met with Mr. Ariel Armony, Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs and Ms. Carrissa Slotterback, Dean of the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA), University of Pittsburgh.

Both sides exchanged views on ways to strengthen cooperation between Thai-U.S. universities.  Ambassador Tanee expressed his readiness to establish connections with educational institutions in Thailand for cooperation in the fields of medicine, STEM, and Southeast Asian studies. The Ambassador suggested there should be more student exchange and internship programs.

Later, Ambassador Tanee also met Mr. James H. Garrett Jr., provost and chief academic officer of Carnegie Mellon University, who expressed interest in supporting student exchange and further expanding cooperation with universities in Thailand.

In the evening, Ambassador Tanee and Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul-General, New York, met and exchanged views with 40 Thai students at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University as well as Thai community in Pittsburgh, on Thailand’s economic and social development in several areas including educational development and startups.

Ambassador Tanee and Consul-General Somjai also provided consular information and services, as well as networking opportunities, to Thai community in Pittsburgh.
