On 17 February 2023, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat warmly welcomed a group of high school students visiting the Royal Thai Embassy. The 20 visiting students along with their chaperones were among the attendees of the 60th North American Invitational Model United Nations Conference (NAIMUN LX) held in Washington, D.C. this February. There are over 3,000 participants from across the United States gathered for NAIMUN to demonstrate their knowledge of international affairs by simulating the United Nations’ conference. Part of NAIMUN programming is connecting the participants with embassies of various countries in Washington, D.C. to learn about different countries, their foreign policies and relations with the U.S.

On this occasion, Ambassador Tanee briefed the students about Thailand’s potential, Thai – U.S. relations and Thailand’s role in the global community and the United Nations, emphasizing Thailand’s strength in the region and its political and economic cooperation with the U.S. as well as the 190th Anniversary of Thai – U.S. diplomatic relations this year.

In addition, The Ambassador shared his perspectives on Thailand’s roles in the world community and the United Nations, particularly Thailand’s efforts to address peacekeeping and humanitarian issues, human trafficking, migration, and sustainable development. Notably, Thailand has contributed over 2,700 Thai peacekeepers to support the UN’s humanitarian missions worldwide. Furthermore, Thailand’s anti-human trafficking efforts remain on the national agenda of the Royal Thai Government.
