Digital industries are driving a surge in investment in Thailand as applications for new projects surpass $40 billion, a rise of over 80 percent year-on-year for the first half of 2026, with data centers and AI-related businesses leading the way.

Investment is one of three pillars of Thailand's economy, along with exports and consumption. The investment climate, however, has become more competitive in recent years, both in the region and beyond.

Thailand has responded to the challenge by creating more generous incentives for investors and building new and more advanced infrastructure to serve them. The Kingdom has distinguished itself in the global trade and business community by avoiding shutdowns and keeping manufacturing and supply chains up and running during the pandemic and other difficult situations.

Resilience and reliability have come to define Thailand's business and investment environment. Foreign and domestic investors submitted 1,299 applications to the Board of Investment, valued at $40.6 billion during the first half of the year through June 30. Foreign direct investment proposals are accounted for 877 projects. The digital sector proposed projects worth $33.8 billion, representing more than three-quarters of the total.

Among the global technology firms chosen to channel funds into Thailand were Alphabet's Google, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft. All have announced major investments to expand their cloud and AI infrastructure in the Kingdom.

The scale of those commitments represent a strong vote of confidence in Thailand's openness and reliability, despite rising energy and other costs.

Not all investment was for high technology ventures. Electrical and electronics projects attracted $3.6 billion, agriculture and food processing received $1.85 billion, logistics and high-value services drew $1.2 billion, and automotive projects were valued at $776 million. The wealth of opportunities in a diverse range of sectors is a crucial factor in making the Thai economy resilient.
