Thailand continues to attract strong international interest, with foreign investment rising significantly in the first four months of 2025. According to the Department of Business Development, the number of foreign investors increased by 43% year-on-year, with the majority choosing to invest in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), Thailand’s flagship development zone.
The Department reported that 363 new foreign investors committed a total of $1.77 billion during the period - a 5% increase compared to the same timeframe in 2024. The United States ranked second in the number of investors, with 51 companies pledging $76 million, primarily targeting the retail and data center sectors.
"This surge in investment reflects growing confidence in Thailand’s strategic focus on future industries," said Sasikarn Wattanachan, Deputy Government Spokesperson. She noted that key areas of interest include electric vehicles, clean energy, and digital infrastructure such as data centers all part of the Thai government's long-term vision to strengthen the country’s global competitiveness.
The Eastern Economic Corridor remained the top destination for foreign investors, accounting for $959 million or 54% of total foreign investment in Thailand during the period.
Spanning three provinces near the capital, Bangkok, the EEC is a cornerstone of Thailand’s high-tech and sustainable development ambitions. Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and logistics capabilities, the Corridor has attracted investment from global leaders including Japan, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United States.
In addition to its strategic location, the EEC is advancing initiatives focused on environmental sustainability and smart city development. Officials are implementing circular economy principles and leveraging technologies such as renewable energy, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the quality of life and promote efficient urban management.
These efforts are aimed at creating a dynamic, livable, and investment-friendly environment that appeals to both local communities and international partners.
