When it comes to hosting international meetings and conferences, few cities perform better than Bangkok. The Thai capital has climbed to seventh place globally as a destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) travel, according to the latest report from the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

The ICCA GlobeWatch: Business Analytics – Country & City Rankings 2024 was unveiled in Frankfurt during IMEX, one of the world's leading exhibitions for the incentive travel, meetings, and events industry. IMEX is regarded as a key platform for the global congress and convention sector.

Bangkok rose significantly in the rankings, jumping from 15th place in 2023 to seventh in 2024, largely due to a notable increase in the number of international events it hosted.        In 2024, Bangkok welcomed 115 MICE events, attracting 65,296 participants and generating $221 million USD in revenue.

Across the country, Thailand hosted 158 international meetings in 2024, up from 143 in 2023, placing the Kingdom at 25th in the global country rankings. Regionally, Thailand maintained its strong performance, retaining fifth place in the Asia-Pacific region.

Thailand’s growing appeal as a MICE destination stems from multiple strengths. The Kingdom serves as a major transportation hub in Southeast Asia and offers a diverse range of venues suitable for gatherings of all sizes. Thailand    is known for its competitive pricing, high service standards, and world-renowned hospitality. Destinations like Phuket,    with its scenic beauty and luxury facilities, further boost the country's appeal for MICE travelers.

European cities dominated the top of the global rankings,   with Vienna taking first place, followed by Lisbon, Barcelona, Prague, and Paris. In addition to Bangkok, two other Asian cities placed in the global top ten: Singapore and Seoul.

The 2024 ICCA report analyzed data from over 11,000 international conferences held around the world. Asia emerged as the second most popular region for hosting international meetings, following Europe.

Bangkok’s continued rise in the rankings reflects Thailand’s commitment to strengthening its position as a global MICE destination and underscores the strategic role the country plays in the international conference landscape.
