On 11 February 2026, H.E. Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States, attended The Mayor’s Ambassador Reception at The John A. Wilson Building, hosted by the Office of the Mayor of Washington, D.C., to receive The Mayor’s Embassy Award 2025 for the Royal Thai Embassy. The event was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from the U.S. Department of State, as well as public and private sector partners of the District of Columbia.

Mayor Muriel Bowser presented the award in recognition of the Royal Thai Embassy’s proactive engagement and close collaboration in major events in Washington, D.C. throughout 2025, including the Around the World Embassy Tour, the Chef Challenge, and the “Sawasdee DC” Thai Festival held at the National Mall on 14 September 2025. She also underscored the sister-city partnership between Bangkok and Washington, D.C., which serves as an important mechanism for strengthening people-to-people ties.

On this occasion, the Ambassador expressed his appreciation to the Mayor and the Government of the District of Columbia, on behalf of Team Thailand. He emphasized that the Thai Embassy considers itself a part of the Washington, D.C. family and highlighted the longstanding Thailand-U.S. relationship of over 193 years and the close relationship with Washington, D.C. through many activities. The Ambassador reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to continued cooperation with the District, including the organization of the “Sawasdee DC” Thai Festival again in early September this year.
