Having committed $5 billion to expand in Singapore, Bridge Data Centers (BDC) aspires a $6-billion expansion of its operations in Thailand, with the Bain Capital owned firm intending to massively increase the capacity of its hyperscale data center campuses in the Kingdom.
Thailand has drawn an impressive level of investment in data centers from several global tech firms, such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft and ByteDance, among others. The Thai Government and Board of Investment have offered generous incentives and privileges while they avidly pursue firms willing to fund digital industries.
Thailand is striving to upgrade its economy to a more advanced level through cutting-edge technologies. Increasingly, the focus has been on AI, and data centers are a foundation for that technology.
According to Bloomberg News Service, BDC is currently in discussions with lenders to secure up to $6 billion in loans to support its expansion activities in Thailand. The company, however, has not publicly commented on the negotiations.
However, BDC has already arranged the water resources necessary for its planned campus in Thailand, according to the Investment Monitor website.
In addition, Investment Monitor wrote that BDC has also entered several collaborations to investigate alternative energy solutions. The goal is to enhance power strategies for digital infrastructure. As AI use and workloads rise, demand for resilient and sustainable energy sources continues to increase.
Established nearly ten years ago, BDC has built and is operating hyperscale data center campuses across multiple markets including Malaysia, Thailand and India.
“BDC’s strategy includes supporting hyperscale customers and enabling technology companies seeking data center platforms throughout the Asia Pacific as demand for AI and high-density workloads increases,” Investment Monitor wrote.
