Bangkok has been named the world’s best city for remote work, earning top marks for its fast internet, affordability, and vibrant surroundings, according to a recent global index highlighted by the New York Post.

“With blazing-fast internet, great value for money, and stunning views, Bangkok offers everything remote workers need – all wrapped in one dynamic lifestyle destination,”      the Post reported.

The ranking was compiled by QR Code Generator, a software firm specializing in QR code solutions. Their index evaluates cities based on key criteria important to remote workers, including internet speed, cost of living, and access to remote work visas.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, remote work has shifted from  a short-term solution to a long-term global trend.                  As lockdowns and health precautions led many companies to adopt flexible work arrangements, a growing number of professionals discovered the benefits of working outside traditional office settings.

Although much of the world has returned to pre-pandemic routines, the remote work model continues to appeal to workers seeking flexibility and improved work-life balance. Many employers are now exploring hybrid and fully remote options to meet evolving employee expectations.

Thailand has positioned itself as a leader in embracing this shift. The country has introduced dedicated visa programs to attract remote workers and digital nomads, promoting itself as a welcoming and well-equipped destination for professionals from around the world.

Scoring 69.98 out of 100, Bangkok claimed the top spot in the QR Code Generator index, recognized as the most attractive city globally for remote work. Bucharest, the capital of Romania, followed closely in second place.
