Ambassador Suriya Chindawongse attends the ASEAN Day Celebration

On 8 August 2024, Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the United States attended the ASEAN Day Celebration at the U.S.-ASEAN Center, Arizona State University, Washington Center.

The celebration started with the opening remarks by Mr. Darby Parliament, Director, Office of Multilateral Affairs, Department of State, followed by a speech from H.E. Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez of the Philippines, on behalf of H.E. Ambassador Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz of Malaysia, the Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Washington, D.C. H.E. Ambassador Sisavath Inphachanh of Laos and H.E. Ambassador Lui Tuck Yew of Singapore, along with representatives from other ASEAN countries were also in attendance. Over 150 attendees from the governmental and public sector, academia, NGOs and think tanks participated in the event.

Authentic food from each ASEAN nations were presented by respective Embassies for all to enjoy. The Royal Thai Embassy prepared samples of Thai Fried Chicken Toasts, Thai Fish Cakes and Thai Milk Tea, which were highly sought after by participants of the event. The event included cultural performances, namely traditional dances and poem recitals by the Embassy of Indonesia, the Embassy of Vietnam, the Embassy of Malaysia and the Royal Thai Embassy. Furthermore, UNESCO, George Washington University, and Georgetown University gave educational presentations on career prospects and their involvement in fostering future ASEAN-U.S. development.
