On 15 May 2024, the Venerable Ajahn Jayasāro was invited by the Royal Thai Embassy, to offer Dhamma lecture to embassy officials, staff, and members of the Thai community to commemorate the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King’s 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary on 28th July 2024. Approximately 100 people attended the lecture and the event was live streamed on facebook.
On this occasion, Phra Ajahn elaborated three main points namely (1) the uniqueness of Buddhism, which represents an integrated education system that promotes analytical thinking and verification of truth before believing in any matter, (2) the adherence to monastic principles and discipline by monks to enable their full potential in providing guidance, and (3) the practice of mindfulness, which will bring about virtuous qualities, including sīla (virtual or moral conduct), samādhi (state of meditative consciousness) and paññā (wisdom) while being fulfilled with heedfulness. In short, Ajahn Jayasāro emphasized that Buddhism allowed people to constantly grow their full potential in all aspects for their own benefits and happiness as well as those of others in a sustainable way.
Prior to the event at the embassy, on 14 May 2024, the Venerable Phra Phrom Phacharayanamuni paid a courtesy call on Phra Rajmongkolrangsi (Luangta Chi), Abbot of Wat Thai Washington, D.C. and one of the most revered monks in the United States, who will turn 100 years old this year, at Wat Thai Washington, D.C. Subsequently, Miss Chuliepote Isarankura Na Ayudhaya, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., led embassy officials and staff to pay respect and humbly congratulate Phra Ajahn, for receiving a higher monastic title of “Phra Phrom Phacharayanamuni”, bestowed upon by His Majesty the King of Thailand, on 13 May 2024.
In the morning of 15 May 2024, CDA Chuliepote invited Phra Ajahn to visit the consular building in Kalorama, which was the first Thai embassy in the United States. He offered some Dhamma and guidance to the consular staff regarding their work. Phra Ajahn also kindly spared his time to greet Thai nationals who were present there.
