On 2 April 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. hosted a ceremony to present the Princess Chulabhorn Gold Medal Award and the Plaque of Honor to Dr. Curtis C. Harris, Chief of Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis and Carcinogenesis Section of the Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute, at the Embassy’s Chancery. The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the U.S., and joined by Heads and officials of Team Thailand Offices in Washington, D.C., as well as family members and colleagues of Dr. Harris. 

The Princess Chulabhorn Gold Medal Award was established with the permission of Professor Dr. Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand, President of the Chulabhorn Research Institute, to recognize and honor individuals or institutions with outstanding achievements in research and academia, as well as those who have maintained close collaboration with the Chulabhorn Research Institute.

Dr. Curtis C. Harris was recognized for initiating collaborative efforts in the Thailand Initiative for Genomics and Expression Research in Liver Cancer (TIGER-LC) and for his continuous support in developing researchers at the Chulabhorn Research Institute in cancer research. Dr. Xin Wei Wang, a researcher from the U.S. National Institute of Health who has participated in the TIGER-LC project since 2009, also received the same award from Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn in December 2024 in Bangkok.
