Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. Holds the 100-Day Memorial Merit-Making Ceremony in Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother

On 31 January 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. organized a 100-day memorial merit-making ceremony in tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother at Wat Thai Washington, D.C. The ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the U.S., and was attended by heads of Team Thailand offices, officials, staff, and families of Team Thailand, representatives of Thai associations, community organizations, and the Thai private sector, as well as Thai and American participants from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and neighboring states, totaling approximately 200 attendees.

Fifteens monks from Thai temples across the U.S. were invited to take part in the ceremony, including Wat Thai Washington, Wat Dharmaprateep, Wat Phra Dhammakaya Washington, D.C., Wat Pasantidhamma (Virginia), Wat Prodketchetharam (New York), and Wat Buddhapavana (Nevada)

On this occasion, the Ambassador delivered remarks in remembrance of and paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother as well as led participants in a pledge to become a good citizen for the nation. The Ambassador and all participants then lit candles, observed a moment of silence, and joined together in singing the Royal Anthem, as an expression of mourning and profound gratitude for Her Majesty’s boundless benevolence.

In the afternoon, Thai communities in Washington, D.C. and neighboring states jointly organized tribute activities in honor and remembrance of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. The program featured performances by representatives of the Thai community, including traditional Thai dances in tribute, a performance accompanying the song “The Light of Royal Grace,” a lotus dance, a poetic recitation in tribute by Thai-American youth, and musical performances in honor of Her Majesty by American musicians.

On this occasion, Team Thailand in Washington, D.C., in cooperation with the Thai community, organized a community food offering to serve participants attending the merit-making ceremony and tribute activities. These events reflected the collective efforts and close cooperation of the Royal Thai Embassy, Team Thailand offices, as well as representatives from Thai associations, community organizations, the Thai private sector, and Thai civil society in the U.S. In particular, participating organizations included the Board Directors of Wat Thai Washington, D.C., the Board Directors of Wat Pasantidhamma (Virginia), the Thai Isan Association of Washington, D.C., the Thai Restaurant Association of America (TRAA), the Southern Thai Association, Washington, D.C., the Teachers and Parents Association of Wat Thai Washington, D.C., the Thai-American Association, volunteers from  Wat Tummaprateip, Sisters Thai, and the NVA Thai Market, all of whom joined together to pay tribute, express loyalty, and honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother with deep gratitude and reverence.
