A transit visa is required for an individual whose transit flight duration exceeds 12 hours and who intends to leave the airport's international transit area and exit the airport.

The transit visa is divided into three categories, as follows:

1. Category "TS": This visa is issued to individuals traveling in transit through the Kingdom of Thailand en route to their final destination or to return to their country of origin. Travelers who intend to transit through Thai international airports for less than 12 hours and remain within the designated transit area do not require a visa. 
2. Category "S": This visa is granted to individuals participating in sports activities, such as athletes and sports personnel.
3. Category "C": This visa is for individuals who are in charge of or part of the crew of a conveyance (e.g., ship or aircraft) arriving at a port, station, or other location within the Kingdom of Thailand. 

Single Entry: Fee 40 USD - Valid for 3 months from the date of issuance

Travelers must enter Thailand within the validity period. The length of stay in Thailand is up to 60 days, commencing from the date of entry. An extension for an additional 30 days is possible, allowing for a maximum total stay of 90 days from the date of entry. Please be informed that the visa application fee is non-refundable.

Visa applications submitted through the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. will typically take approximately 15 business days to process. During this period, you may check the status of your visa through the online visa system. If your receive an email requesting additional documents, the updated status of your visa will be available within 3 to 5 business days from the date you upload the requested documents to the system.

It is advisable to plan and apply for a visa at least 30 days prior to the departure date; however, applications should not be submitted more than 90 days in advance, as the validity of most visas is typically only 90 days and effective from the date of issuance. If you apply too early, the visa may expire before your travel date, necessitating a re-application and an additional payment.

Please kindly be informed that consular officers reserve the right to request additional documents as deemed necessary and may reject any application without the obligation to provide justification. 

The following documents must be uploaded in the E-visa system in large and clear JPEG or PDF format (the file size must not exceed 3MB):

1. Passport biodata page or travel document (must be valid within 6 months from travel date)
2. Photograph of the applicant, taken within the past six months
3. Document indicating current location (driver's license, bank statement, or proof of stay)
4. Flight itinerary to Thailand and depart from Thailand. The itinerary must include the applicant's name, travel dates, airports, and flight number.
5. Proof of accommodation in Thailand such as accommodation bookings, invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand
6. Category "S" requires an inviation letter confirming the applicant's participation in sports activities, signed by the authorized individual. 
7. Category "C" requires a letter from the company, a letter of employment, or a valid crew ID.

For Non-US Citizens: 

1. A copy of the permanent resident alien card or a copy of a valid US visa
2. An employment letter confirming the position and work status, hand-signed by an authorized representative of the Human Resources Department or a Manager, is required. A pay stub, job offer, or acceptance letter will NOT be accepted.
3. A business license, business registration indicating the applicant’s name, or personal/business tax returns demonstrating income from self-employment are required for self-employed individuals.
4. A letter confirming full-time student status (I-20) is required if the applicants are students.

For Minors under 20 Years Old: 

1. A copy of the bith certificate
2. A copy of the marriage certificate of the parents or a notarized copy of the court order if sole custody.
3. A copy of the passports or ID of both the mother and father or legal guardian.
4. A notarized letter of consent from both the mother and father or legal guardian is required for the minor to travel abroad if the applicant is traveling alone. If the minor is traveling with one parent, the parent who is not accompanying the minor must also provide a letter of consent.
