Apply for a Waiver of Military Conscription
1. Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate Jurisdiction |
The Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. provides registration services for Thai nationals currently residing in the 13 states within its jurisdiction, as follows Alabama, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, and Puerto Rico |
2. Military Registration for Reserve Duty |
A Thai male citizen who has reached the age of 17 years or is about to turn 18 years old is required to present himself for military registration (conscription) at the district or sub-district office according to his place of residence. This registration must be completed between January 1 and December 31 of each year. Failure to register within the legally specified period may result in legal action for non-compliance, which could include a fine of up to 300 baht. |
3. Receiving a Military Call-up Notice and Requesting a Deferment for Military Service |
3.1 Receiving a Call-up: Individuals who have completed their military registration (Form สด.9) and reach the age of 20 years are required to report for military service by receiving a call-up notice (Form สด.35) within that year. 3.2 Requesting a Deferment: Individuals who are studying abroad and are unable to return to Thailand for military selection can apply for a deferment from military service due to their studies. To do so, they should obtain a certification from the Thai embassy or consulate in the country where they are studying. This certification, confirming their status as a student and their need for deferment, should then be submitted to the local military recruitment office (sadsadi) in the area where their name is registered in the household register. This request can be made either in person or by authorizing a legal representative to submit it on their behalf. Note: Deferments will only be granted for reasons related to education. Other reasons will not be considered for deferment from military selection. |
4. Required Documents for Obtaining a Certification from the Embassy |
4.1 Two copies of the certification letter from an applicant's current educational institution. This letter should verify your enrollment and academic details. 4.2 Two copies of the Thai translation of the certification letter. The translation should be a complete and accurate version of the original document, printed in Thai. |

The above required details will not be specified* 1.2 Fill out the Legalization Application form including a telephone number or email address where you can be contacted. In case of submitting a request by mail.
