On 10 February 2026, H.E. Dr. Suriya Jindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States, attended the Welcoming and Interfaith Prayer Ceremony for Peace held under the Walk for Peace initiative at the Washington National Cathedral. Subsequently, on 11 February 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C., co-hosted a merit-making ceremony offering lunch and refreshments to more than 200 international monks and pilgrims at Saint Mark’s Capitol Hill Church together with Phrakru Sophonthamwithet, Abbot of Wat Tummapateip Washington DC as well as Thais and Buddhists in Washington, D.C. and the surrounding states.    

The Walk for Peace monks started their journey for peace on 26 October 2025 from a meditation center in Fort Worth, Texas, involving 22 monks from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and other countries. The pilgrimage spanned over 15 weeks and covered a total distance of 3,700 kilometers across various states to promote the values of compassion, non-violence, and interfaith dialogue within American society and the global community.
