Thailand is positioning itself to host Southeast Asia’s first Disneyland, as the Government steps up efforts to attract a world-class theme park as part of its broader push to expand family-oriented entertainment and tourism.

Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said the Government has begun work on identifying a suitable site and crafting investment incentives aimed at Disney or another major global entertainment company.

Thailand has already demonstrated its ability to attract leading multinational firms, successfully persuading global technology companies to invest in data centers and digital infrastructure to support artificial intelligence and next-generation industries. Officials believe the same strategic approach can be applied to securing a landmark entertainment project.

The proposed location for any Disneyland would be within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), the three-province development zone east of Bangkok that showcases Thailand’s ambitions in high-tech manufacturing, sustainable development, and modern urban living. Phiphat said  the EEC is designed to host “magnet projects” that elevate the region’s global profile and attract long-term investment.

The EEC already offers a strong foundation for a major international theme park, with established beach resorts, an international airport, top-tier schools and universities, and extensive leisure and sports facilities, including golf courses and sailing clubs.

Further strengthening the area’s appeal, the Government is developing a national sports complex in the EEC, highlighted by a world-class football stadium with an 80,000-seat capacity intended for international sporting events, concerts, and large-scale entertainment.

A Disneyland in the EEC would significantly enhance Thailand’s family entertainment landscape, support the growing expatriate and professional community in the region, and attract additional domestic and international visitors.

Disney currently operates theme parks in Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. With no Disneyland yet established in Southeast Asia, Thailand is seeking to position itself as the natural choice to host the region’s first Disney resort.
