Thailand has long been a magnet for foreign investment, but Thai companies are also bullish on their Kingdom. The Board of Investment (BoI) said the year 2025 produced
a surge in domestic investment, as Thai companies poured funds into ventures employing new technologies, innovation and sustainability.

Investment by Thai-majority-owned companies increased in value by 86 percent in 2025 to nearly $21 billion, according to the BoI. Businesses expanded into new industries “driven by a shift toward technology, innovation, and sustainability,” the agency said.

Clearly, Thai companies are firm believers in the future of the Kingdom and its economic prospect. That vote of confidence is crucial to propelling the transformation that Thailand’s economic planners are promoting as the core of the national strategy.

The role of Thai companies in the country’s growth and evolution rarely gets the attention that foreign investors do. Nonetheless, Thai firms have been foundational to the Kingdom’s economic success since the first wave of industrialization in the 1970s. Even during the peak periods of growth in the early 1990s, investment by Thai firms amounted to over seven times that of foreign firms, according to Thai economists.

“Thai entrepreneurs remain a substantial force in the economy alongside foreign investors, with rising project applications and investment activities. Thai-majority firms submitted 1,170 applications, accounting for about one-third of the total,” said BoI Secretary-General Narit Therdsteerasukdi.

The BoI said that investment has been concentrated in sectors, such as infrastructure, transport, clean energy, digital and data centers. In addition, expansion continues in manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare and electronics.

Narit said the trends show that businesses are adapting to changing market demands and advancing into higher-value industries.
