Thailand has scored yet another win in the world of film. This has further solidified the country’s position as a preferred location for film making. The producers of Jurassic World 4 have chosen several locations in Thailand to shoot the latest installment in their sci-fi action movie series over the next two months.
Jurassic World 4 is the fifth sequel to Steven Spielberg’s 1990s groundbreaking blockbuster Jurassic Park, based on a science fiction novel by Michael Crichton. The first sequel, Jurassic World, was released in 2015. The Kingdom has been a location for other sci-fi films, including Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
Thailand is one of the most popular overseas locations for Hollywood filmmakers, with dozens of hit movies, including several Academy Award winners, shot in the Kingdom in recent decades. The skills of Thai production teams, plus the growing popularity of Thai films and television series, have turned film into a growing element of Thailand’s soft power.
“Thai authorities have given permission to Jurassic World 4’s producers to film at three locations provided their activities do not affect the environment, nature, or wildlife,” said Atthaphon Charoenchansa, Director-General of the National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation Department.
The Kingdom, while throwing out the welcome mat for filmmakers, has also required them to take measures to safeguard the environment since a controversy involving one hit film that damaged a treasured beach during production two decades ago.
However, along with reasonable requirements, the Government offers filmmakers some of the most generous incentives to choose Thailand, including tax exemptions, rebates, and financial bonuses for using local technicians and craftspeople.
Last year, Thailand reeled in over $180 million in revenue from foreign film productions, and analysts expect the figure to be higher in 2024.
