Thailand has earned praise for its successful hosting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)–World Bank Group (WBG) Annual Meetings, with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva commending the Kingdom's hospitality, cultural heritage and efficiency. Thailand's high standards have also set a benchmark for future host countries.

"You welcomed us. You shared your incredible culture with us. And you showed us the very best of your beautiful country," Georgieva said in her closing remarks, expressing appreciation to the people of Thailand for their warm welcome and hospitality.

Thousands of delegates from around the world gathered in Bangkok for the Annual Meetings, held from 12 to 18 October 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. Representatives from 191 member countries participated in discussions on the global economic outlook, financial stability, poverty reduction and international economic cooperation.

Artificial intelligence (AI), emerging technologies, and their implications for economic growth and employment were among the key topics discussed. The Meetings also highlighted the importance of economic resilience, inclusive growth and international cooperation in addressing global economic challenges.

Georgieva noted that countries are interconnected and share common economic challenges. She also emphasized the responsibility of governments to support their economies and people through periods of transformation. In recognizing Thailand's successful hosting, she praised the country's hospitality and the positive atmosphere that contributed to productive discussions.

Thailand's hosting of the Annual Meetings also provided an opportunity to showcase its economic development, manufacturing capabilities and integration into global supply chains, including those related to AI. The IMF has recognized Thailand's economic transformation since it last hosted the Meetings in 1991, highlighting the country's development and growing role in the global economy.
