Ambassador Inspects the Sorting of Overseas Ballots and Referendum Ballots

On 30 January 2026, H.E. Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the U.S., visited the Consular Section on Kalorama Road, Washington, D.C., to inspect the sorting process of overseas election ballots and referendum ballots submitted by mail. During the visit, the Ambassador also offered encouragement to the committee responsible for administering the postal voting process.
At present, the Royal Thai Embassy has received a total of 3,474 election ballots and 2,267 referendum ballots, which represent 82 percent and 84 percent, respectively, of the total number of registered voters - 4,240 for the election and 2,702 for the referendum.
To date, the Embassy has dispatched the collected ballots to Thailand via diplomatic pouch on three occasions. The next and final shipment is scheduled for 3 February 2026.
With regard to the referendum ballots, the vote counting will take place at the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C., on 8 February 2026 at 1:00 p.m. The process will be open to interested Thai nationals for observation.
