On 16 April 2024, Mr. Ethan Rosenzweig, Acting Chief of Protocol of the United States, hosted a farewell reception in honor of Ambassador Tanee Sangrat and Mrs. Cholathip Kambhu Sangrat, at Blair House, the President’s Guest House, to celebrate the Ambassador’s tenure in the United States before taking up his new position as the Thai Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

The event was attended by senior executives from U.S. Government, the U.S. Congress, the private sector, diplomatic corps, and Thai community leaders. These included Ms. Erika Moritsugu, Deputy Assistant to the President and Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Senior Liaison, Ms. Marisa Lago, Under Secretary of Commerce and International Trade, Dr. Mira Rapp-Hooper, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for East Asia and Oceania, Ms. Melissa Brown, Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Mr. Don Sisson, Deputy Staff Director, House of Representatives Committee on Rules, Mr. Jonathan Kupperman, Senior Legislative Assistant, Office of Rep. Michelle Steel, and Mrs. Edy Carlson, President of the Thai Restaurant Association in America, along with foreign diplomats and leaders of the Thai community, totaling over 50 people.

On this occasion, Mr. Kin Moy, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, U.S. Department of State, delivered remarks on behalf of the U.S. Government, thanking Ambassador Tanee and his wife for their unwavering support to promote Thai-U.S. relations.  He commended the Ambassador’s accomplishments on many fronts, including the recent exchanges of high-level visits and the enhancement of people-to-people relations, which served as a foundation of the ties between Thailand and the U.S. Notably, in celebration of the 190th  anniversary of Thai-U.S. diplomatic relations in 2023, Ambassador Tanee initiated and successfully organized the "Sawasdee DC" Thai festival to commemorate the occasion, which impressed tens of thousands of people who visited the event.

Ambassador Tanee expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the farewell reception, while emphasizing the overwhelming support he had received from all parties, encompassing the U.S. side, the Embassy officials and staff, as well as relevant Thai agencies, who contributed to the aforementioned successes. He also commended the dynamism of the Thai-U.S. relationship, which has become closer in the past year, including the establishment of the U.S.-Thai Alliance Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives. He further expressed his desire for the Prime Minister of Thailand to pay an official visit to the U.S. sometime this year and for both countries to advance cooperation on the prevailing situation in Myanmar as well as relevant development initiatives in the Mekong sub-region. Lastly, the Ambassador sought support from the Congress for the passage of the bills that would mutually benefit the U.S., Thailand, and other friends and allies of the U.S., namely the renewal of GSP, the Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act, and the Medical Supply Chain Resiliency Act.
