On 16 October 2024, Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States attended the 2024 ASEAN Culture Day, held at Washington D.C. Temple, Kensington, Maryland. The event was part of a series activities organized by The ASEAN Spouses Circle of Washington, D.C. The celebration highlighted the rich and diverse cultures of the 10 ASEAN countries through traditional dances, fashion shows, art exhibits, and culinary displays.
On this occasions, the 10 ASEAN countries presented their respective national cuisines, including the Royal Thai Embassy which provided Thai dishes, namely “Khao Tang Na Tang,” crispy rice cracker with creamy chicken dip and “Pad Thai,” Thai stir-fried rice noodle, allowing attendees to enjoy international cuisine and experiencing ASEAN culture up close. With over 400 attendees, including ASEAN Ambassadors, diplomats, and members of the local community, the event fostered cultural exchange and strengthened diplomatic relationships. Additionally, there was a dance performance called a “Nora” by Miss Susannah Bua Cantrell and a Thai musical instrument performance called “Isan Phin” by Mr. Pachara Sangchai. Counsellor. (Commercial Affairs), and Miss Supawadee Yamgamol, Minister from the Office of Commercial Affairs, who were also present at the event.
ASC Chairwoman Tran Thi Bich Van, spouse of the Vietnamese Ambassador, in her opening remarks, emphasized the vital role of cultural activities in building connections between ASEAN and the U.S. Thailand's participation in the event, along with other ASEAN countries, contributed to showcasing the vibrant cultural heritage of Southeast Asia.
