James Nachtwey, one of the world’s most renowned war photographers, is being honored by the Royal Photographic Society of Thailand with an exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Cultural Center that showcases some of his most moving and impactful images from the past 42 years.

Nachtwey, who has covered conflicts from Northern Ireland to Kosovo, Nicaragua, Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine and beyond, makes his home in New York City but also resides in Bangkok. The exhibition showcases 126 of Nachtwey’s images and includes a filmed interview with the photographer by director Thomas Nordanstad.

"He is not just a war photographer, his photographs help us comprehend the value of life,” said Tul Hiranyalawan, President of the Royal Photographic Society of Thailand, at the opening night of the exhibition. The packed event was attended by prominent members of Thailand’s photography, art and journalistic communities.

The show, which runs through November 26 and is free to the public, is jointly sponsored by the Royal Photographic Society of Thailand, the Photographic Arts Foundation, the BACC, and the Embassy of the United States of America in Thailand.

At 75 years of age, Nachtwey is still venturing into the world’s most dangerous conflict zones on assignment. His photographs have appeared in Time magazine and The New Yorker among other publications, and he has been awarded the Overseas Press Club's Robert Capa Gold Medal five times and two World Press Photo awards.

On his website he describes his life work in simple and succinct words:

“I have been a witness, and these pictures are my testimony. The events I have recorded should not be forgotten and must not be repeated." – James Nachtwey.
