On 21 August 2023, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat had a video conference call with Governor Somnuk Promkeaw of Samut Songkhram, along with representatives from local government agencies and private sector organizations, to discuss ways to advance Sister City relationship between Samut Songkhram and Mount Airy, North Carolina, especially on tourism promotion and cultural exchanges, trade promotion, educational exchanges, and strengthening people-to-people ties on local level. Samut Songkhram province is currently pursuing area development around the Eng-Chang Siamese Twins Memorial, in connection with revitalizing local tourism industry, and is interested in exploring opportunities for exports of agricultural products such as pomelos, coconuts, and salt.
