Ambassador of Thailand to the U.S. had a discussion with Deputy USTR on trade issues and the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy

Today (5 Jan 2023), H.E. Mr. Tanee Sangrat, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States, together with Miss Supawadee Yamgamol Minister

(Commercial Affairs) and officials from the Royal Thai Embassy, met with Ambassador Sarah Bianchi, Deputy United States Trade Representative (USTR).

On this occasion, Ambassador Tanee raised the following issues (1) the upcoming visit to the United States of H.E. Mr. Supattapong Punmeechaow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Thailand (2) A follow-up of Trade and the Investment Agreement Framework (TIFA) meeting in 2023 (3) Seeking support for removal of Thailand from the Watch List countries under the Special 301 Report and the Notorious Market List (4) A follow-up on the renewal of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) programme which expired on 31 December 2020 (5) Expressing Thailand’s readiness to support the U.S. APEC host year and (6) Activities to celebrate the 190th anniversary of Thai-US diplomatic relations

The Deputy USTR extended her appreciation for Thailand’s support on the advancement of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) and reiterated the readiness of the U.S. to host the TIFA meeting in 2023 at Thailand’s convenient timeframe. Moreover, Ambassador Bianchi emphasized that the U.S. is ready to work with Thailand on various issues, particularly on a worker centric trade policy which is one of the priorities of the U.S. government.
