On 6–8 May 2026, H.E. Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States, visited Atlanta, Georgia, to promote economic, technological, educational and people-to-people cooperation between Thailand and the United States.
On 7 May 2026, the Ambassador presided over the Thai SELECT Day – Atlanta’s New Gateway for Authentic Thai Cuisine, hosted by the Thai Trade Center - Miami at Bangkok Station Restaurant, during which he presented the Thai SELECT Award Certificates to 14 Thai restaurants and Certificates of Appreciation to Singha Beer and Eastland Food for supporting Thailand’s food and beverage industry. He also joined in a live Thai cooking demonstration to promote Thai culture through cuisine.
During the visit, the Ambassador also met with Mr. Bernard Kippelen, Vice Provost for International Initiatives, Georgia Institute of Technology, to discuss cooperation in academic exchanges, online learning, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and lifelong learning, with a view of reskilling and upskilling workers and enhancing students’ capabilities in STEM. He further met and exchanged views on experiences and perspectives on student life with Thai students and alumni in Atlanta.
On 8 May 2026, the Ambassador met with Mr. Andre Dickens, Mayor of Atlanta, to discuss expanding investment and cooperation between Thailand and Atlanta, particularly in the areas of education, business and people-to-people ties. The Ambassador highlighted that Atlanta is home to three major Thai companies, namely the PTT Global Chemical, Indorama Ventures and Thai Union Group, thereby contributing to the economic benefits of both Thailand and the United States at the local and national levels
