A new chapter in luxury travel is unfolding in Thailand with the launch of The Blue Jasmine, a premium rail service offering nine-day journeys through some of the country’s most scenic and culturally rich regions, including visits to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
“There is a new way to see Thailand, and it is not from a beach lounger or a rooftop bar,” wrote Time Out magazine. “A brand-new luxury train called The Blue Jasmine is designed for lingering over landscapes, with carriages that feel more like a boutique hotel than public transport.”
Drawing comparisons to legendary rail experiences such as the Venice Simplon-Orient Express and India’s Maharaja Express, The Blue Jasmine introduces a new level of sophistication to train travel in Thailand. The service aligns with the Kingdom’s expanding reputation as a destination for high-end, experiential tourism.
While Thailand’s traditional rail system has long served as a scenic and economical option for travelers exploring beyond Bangkok, The Blue Jasmine raises the standard significantly. The train offers refined accommodations, gourmet dining, and curated cultural experiences. Its most exclusive cabins even include private butler service.
Jointly operated by the State Railway of Thailand and travel company DTH, The Blue Jasmine embarks on a nine-day journey from the northern city of Chiang Mai to Bangkok. The itinerary includes stops in Uthai Thani, Sukhothai, and Ayutthaya. The latter two, once capitals of ancient Thai kingdoms, are now recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
“Each destination offers a blend of ancient heritage, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural beauty,” noted The Luxury Holiday Company on its website. “Along the way, guests can enjoy exclusive, tailor-made experiences, from participating in a private pottery masterclass to engaging with rescued elephants at a renowned ethical sanctuary.”
Travel expert Andy Austen commented, “This itinerary is carefully crafted to offer an authentic and immersive experience, whether it is the vintage elegance of The Blue Jasmine or the cultural activities included throughout the journey.”
The experience concludes in Bangkok at Hua Lamphong Station, an architectural landmark and a fitting finale to the journey. Upon arrival, guests are treated to a cruise along the Chao Phraya River, often referred to as the River of Kings, followed by a farewell dinner at a fine-dining venue on shore.
The Blue Jasmine is scheduled to make its maiden voyage in November. Additional departures are planned for January, February, July, November, and December of next year.
