Thailand has great stories to tell, and the world is starting to listen. That is the message from global streaming giant Netflix, which has invested more than 200 million dollars in Thai creators and content over the past three years, with continued support for Thai talent firmly on the agenda.

“We’re deeply rooted in Thailand’s creative community,” said Malobika Banerji, Director of Content, Southeast Asia at Netflix. “Our productions tap into the artistry and authenticity of local storytelling. We’re collaborating with exciting local creators to tell stories that they can’t tell anywhere else.”

Netflix’s growing commitment to Thai storytelling aligns with the Thai government’s soft power strategy, which promotes the country’s vibrant creative industries, including film, television, fashion, design, cuisine, architecture, publishing, and advertising, as key drivers of economic and cultural influence.

Banerji made her remarks at a press conference marking the release of Netflix’s latest report, "Netflix in Thailand: Supporting the Future of Local Storytelling." The report highlights how Netflix’s investment has bolstered Thailand’s creative economy, enhanced the country’s international visibility, and supported tourism through global exposure to Thai culture and locations.

Between 2021 and 2024, Netflix produced more than 20 original Thai films and series. While Thai audiences have embraced these homegrown productions, many have also found success on the global stage. According to Netflix, more than 15 Thai originals have reached the Global Top 10 Non-English list, and Thai content has accumulated over 750 million viewing hours worldwide.

Beyond content creation, Netflix is also investing in the future of Thailand’s creative workforce. In 2023, the company launched Reel Life Camp, a hands-on training workshop for aspiring filmmakers. The program has already equipped over 145 young Thai film and television professionals with the skills needed to pursue meaningful careers in the entertainment industry. Netflix confirmed that the camp will continue in 2024.

As international demand for diverse and authentic stories continues to rise, Thailand’s storytelling tradition and the creators behind it are finding a global platform, with Netflix playing a key role in amplifying their voices.
