On 14 May 2025, Dr. Nalinee Taveesin, President of the Thailand Trade Representative, led a high level Thai Delegation from the government and private sectors to meet U.S. Media at the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. Representatives from the Thai governmental sector include Mr. Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Suriya Chindawongse, Ambassador of Thailand to United States; Ms. Hattaya Kousakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and representatives of Thai private sector investing in the United States are Mr. Thiti Thongjen, Executive Vice President, International Production Asset Group, PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP); Dr. Paul Didsayabutra, Senior Vice President, Power Business USA, Banpu Public Company Limited; and Ms. Hannah Martinez, Head of Sustainability Advocacy and Education, Americas, Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited. Representatives from leading U.S. media outlets, namely CNN, NPR, PBS Online, The Asahi Shimbun, and Politico, participated in this meet and greet event in a friendly and cordial atmosphere.
This meeting was a joint effort between the Thai public and private sectors to demonstrate Thailand’s readiness to engage in dialogue with the U.S. on enhancing trade and investment cooperation, aiming for mutual "quick wins" for both countries. Enhanced Thai investments in the U.S. are part and parcel of Thailand’s efforts to have a more balanced economic relationship with the U.S. and help create more jobs in the U.S. During the discussions, Ambassador Suriya emphasized the longstanding and close diplomatic ties between Thailand and the United States, which have lasted for over 192 years, and reaffirmed that Thailand has always been a "friend, strategic partner, and ally" of the United States.
