Thailand is back! Airlines from Thailand will once again be flying to the United States now that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has upgraded the Kingdom’s aviation sector to the top tier in safety, opening the way for faster service between the two nations.
“This is good news for the Thai aviation industry,” said Minister of Transport Suriya Jungrungruangkit. The upgrade marks a pivotal achievement in Thailand's efforts to strengthen its position within the global aviation community, he added.
Consumers and business travelers will also benefit. The new aviation landscape is expected to create competition among airlines for lower prices and faster travel times. Some travelers are hoping for a resumption of direct flights between the Kingdom and the U.S., with United Airlines hinting at launching direct service. In the past, only Thai Airways International operated direct flights between the two countries.
This will become effective October this year at the earliest, which is when the FAA upgrade will take effect.
“The reinstated Category 1 status opens the door for Thai carriers to potentially reestablish direct services to U.S. destinations. Thai Airways, as the country’s flag carrier, would be the most likely candidate to resume such routes,” reported the Aviation A to Z website.
