The Golden Land is a great place for Americans to spend their Golden Years. That was the recommendation by American financial advisors Wealth Enhancement Group, which put Thailand in its top ten list for retirement havens, citing its affordability and hospitality.
“Thailand has become a top destination for retirees thanks to its warm climate, low cost of living, and delicious cuisine,” Wealth Enhancement Group wrote on its website. “Offering an exotic yet affordable retirement option, Thailand’s retirement destinations range from the island of Phuket to the mountainous Chiang Mai.”
The financial advisor listed the eight best places for Americans to retire overseas and ranked Thailand number eight. Costa Rica took top honors and is a favorite for many Americans because of its proximity to the United States. Other countries on the list included Greece, Portugal, Mexico and Uruguay.
“For decades, many Americans have looked overseas, seeking both fulfilling and cost-effective retirements. Retiring abroad offers a unique blend of financial and lifestyle benefits. With lower costs of living, exciting cultural experiences, and diverse climates, ex-pats can unlock opportunities that are difficult to find in the United States,” the Group wrote.
Advantages for Americans retiring in Thailand, according to the firm, include “Thailand is remarkably affordable, especially outside of Bangkok. Thai health care is known to be among the most effective systems in the world. And the expat community is growing as the country increases in popularity, so retirees can access support networks and social activities.”
Other attractions the firm did not mention include the beaches, ease of travel, the culture in which seniors are respected, and the availability of long-term and retirement visas for people over 50 years of age.
According to Forbes, Americans are the largest cohort of expat retirees in the Kingdom, although British, Canadian, French and Swiss retirees are also there in significant numbers.
