What a beautiful deal. The Thai owner the Miss Universe Organization opened the firm’s new global headquarters in New York City last week while announcing that Thailand will host this year’s pageant in November.
“These offices are located in the heart of New York City, surrounded by iconic financial landmarks. We are ready to take our brand to the next level,” said Anne Jakrajutatip, a prominent transgender businesswoman who is the Chief Executive Officer and the first woman to own the organization since 1952.
The organization chose one of New York’s hippest buildings for its headquarters. And New York City was where the pageant originally began 74 years ago. Jakrakjutatip said “the new headquarters in New York City symbolizes the organization’s dedication to “celebrating beauty, diversity and empowerment on a global stage.”
The offices are in the WSA Building on Water Street near the South Street Seaport in lower Manhattan. The New York Times recently wrote that “the building is starting to fill up with artists, designers and boutique creative agencies. By night, it has become the site of splashy events that generate reams of social media content and press coverage.”
Jakrajutatip used the event to announce that this year’s Miss Universe Pageant will take place on November 21 in Thailand, although she did not name a specific city. The capital Bangkok and the beach resort of Phuket should be prime contenders because of their wealth of infrastructure and event facilities, but many cities and resorts in the Kingdom could easily host the competition.
“We are thrilled to return to Thailand, a country renowned for its rich culture and deep appreciation for pageantry,” Jakrajutatip said. “This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate beauty and empowerment in a location that truly embodies the spirit of the Miss Universe Organization.”
