Fashion in Thailand is more than trendy elephant pants. The smash HBO series The White Lotus, set in Thailand this season, is doing its part to shine a spotlight on the Kingdom’s talented fashion designers by having the stars wear their resort wear during the show.

“Ever since The White Lotus dropped, it’s been all over our feeds—snippets, memes, wild theories, and everyone’s hot takes on the season,” wrote the Lifestyle Asia website.

“However, another thing we noticed stealing the spotlight (besides the drama) is the wardrobe. If you’re looking for flowy silhouettes, bold florals, unique prints, cover-ups, or tiny bikinis, here are Thai brands you need to know to nail The White Lotus energy,” the website wrote.

The brands cited by the website were Fiducia Collections, Jim Thompson, Royal Ivy Regatta, April Pool Day, SPF.CO, Mitr, Maewkhoo, Ricochet, Nordenfeld, and Angelys Balek.

Thai designers have made a modest but growing mark in high fashion. Former First Lady Michelle Obama frequently wore gowns and ensembles created by Thai designer Thakoon Panichgul. New York-based Koi Suwnnagate’s designs have been seen time and again on red carpets, worn by several Hollywood stars.

But many in the fashion industry have said that Thailand’s strength is in the casual wear, sportswear and resort wear segments of the market – perfect for The White Lotus ¬– where a corps of young and talented designers has been setting trends.

The only “older” classic designer featured in the program was Jim Thompson, “the name everyone knows, not only by Thais but by many people around the world,” the website said. Jim Thompson was an American who revived and revolutionized the Thai silk industry in the 1950s when it was dormant, and he turned Thai silk into a global phenomenon.

Of Fiducia Collections, the website wrote, “This beloved Thai brand has been spotted on countless celebs and influencers, and for good reason. Fiducia makes luxury resort wear that’s not just for the beach, but also for everyday life.”

In swimwear, the pieces by April Pool Day, “are not only incredibly cute; they are designed for any adventure, whether it’s surfing, diving, skating, or climbing.” Meanwhile, Mitr was described as “the epitome of effortlessly cool.”

“Maewkhoo may not be your typical beachwear brand,” but its creations are “perfect for strolling down the beach or through the city,” the website said.

Another New York-based Thai designer, Angelys Balek, “has been making waves in the swimwear game and has been seen on international icons like Halle Berry, Naomi Campbell, and Miranda Kerr,” Lifestyle Asia wrote.
