Thailand will strive to build itself into a regional hub in eight important industries under Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s development agenda dubbed Thailand Vision 2030, which he unveiled at a conference in Bangkok last week.
In his speech, Prime Minister Srettha said the government has set a goal to transform Thailand into a global hub in tourism, wellness and medical service, agriculture and food, aviation, logistics, future mobility, digital economy, and finance.
The government aims to achieve these goals by capitalizing on its natural resources, tourist attractions, year-round warm climate, expanding infrastructure, and most importantly, the potential of the Thai people.
On becoming a tourism hub: Thailand is currently the 8th most visited country in the world. The government will advance the goal of becoming a tourism hub by easing and facilitating travels, opening up visa-free entry for tourists, promoting all forms of tourisms across every province, revising regulations that hinder tourism, and attracting global event organizers to organize concerts, art shows and film festivals in Thailand.
On becoming a wellness and medical hub: The government will promote the healthcare industry as a global hub for comprehensive care, with the advantage of Thailand’s world-renowned healthcare system. In 2023, medical tourism generated more than 40 billion Baht in revenue. The government aims to further develop domestic healthcare system, utilize AI technology for data management, increase the number of doctors and nurses to meet demand, improve the quality of services, and further promote traditional Thai medicine, massage, spa and herbs.
On becoming an agriculture and food hub: The government will support agricultural production to leverage Thailand’s abundance of resources and promote global food security. Thailand is ready to become the world’s kitchen, capable of exporting all types of food to the global markets. The government aims to support Thai farmers on improving the quality and efficiency of agriculture and farming, as well as develop future food industry and innovative food products.
On becoming an aviation hub: Thailand has a strong geographical position. The government plans to improve infrastructure and logistics systems, and increase human resources, to develop the capacity of existing airports and turn Thailand into a hub for both Thai and foreign airlines with the largest maintenance center in the region.
On becoming a logistic hub: The government plans to develop infrastructure upgrade of road, rail, and aviation transport, to enhance connectivity and facilitate transport of goods domestically and internationally. The government will also improve the entire operations process (One Stop Service) to ensure paperwork do not become bottlenecks for the transport of people and goods.
On becoming a future mobility hub: The government aims to attract over 1 trillion Baht in investment in future automobile industry and promote EV industry throughout the entire supply chain, including in research and development, and the manufacturing of tires, batteries, and car parts, by leveraging its comprehensive and high-potential supply chain.
On becoming a digital economy hub: The government aims to attract future industries, including Digital for All, technology innovation, AI, semiconductor manufacturing, data center and cloud computing, to expand their businesses in Thailand. The government also plans to revise regulations to attract talented workforce.
On becoming a financial hub: The government aims to attract investment from global financial institutions to create an ASEAN Wall Street financial district in Thailand. The government also plans to build infrastructure to support future financial system and develop carbon credit trading system.
