Ambassador Tanee Sangrat promotes Ramayana and Khon in US Congress

On 10 January 2024, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat attended “Ramayana Across Asia: The Shared Cultural Heritage of the Indo-Pacific,” upon the invitation of the HinduACTion and Indo-Pacific Rama Allaince at the Rayburn House Office Building.

On this occasion, the Ambassador gave remarks on “Ramayana in Thai Culture” highlighting the importance of Khon or Ramakien, which is the interpretation of Ramayana in Thailand as moral and ethical values, as a reflection of the power of good over evil, and as cultural heritage in fine arts and performing arts. He also highlighted Khon, a Thai classical masked performance which is exclusively based their story-telling on Ramayana, currently on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2018.

Other speakers included Rep. Jim Baird (R-IN), Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI), Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu of India, Mr. Utsav Chakrabarti, Executive Director of HinduACTion, and Mr. Se Hoon Kim, Coordinator of Indo-Pacific Rama Alliance.
