On 12 July 2024, Ambassador Suriya Chindawongse met with Rick Duke, Deputy Special Envoy on Climate, on the occasion of his assumption of duties as Ambassador of Thailand to the U.S.

The ambassador reiterated Thailand’s commitment to promoting economic growth while addressing the challenge of climate change.

Both sides agreed on the need to work together to keep the 1.5°C threshold within reach and stay on the timeline to achieve the respective Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) goals. They also discussed cooperation on hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) reduction in air conditioning industry and methane reduction, where the U.S. stands ready to provide technical support in areas such as climate innovation and climate-smart agriculture.
