On 11 August 2023, Ambassador Tanee Sangrat led a Congressional Staff Delegation to visit the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS), which was established over sixty years ago under a collaboration of the Ministry of Defense of Thailand and the US Department of Defense. The mission of AFRIMS encompasses conducting medical research on infectious diseases, developing medical countermeasures including drugs and vaccines, as well as providing diagnostic support for infectious diseases such as dengue, malaria, HIV, scrub typhus, COVID-19, and other emerging infectious diseases.

AFRIMS serves as one of the most important mechanisms in public health collaboration between Thailand and the US, especially in the advancement of US pharmaceutical capability for treatment of tropical diseases as well as in capacity building and training for Thai doctors and researchers.
